On both, a 55-inch pro display costs roughly $880 to $1330, the media player is built in, and third-party CMS apps install on either one. So choose the CMS first and the logo second. If you want one cloud account for both brands at $6 to $15 per screen per month, Look DS runs natively on Tizen and webOS.
Key takeaways
- For mixed Samsung and LG fleets, Look DS is the simplest choice: one free player app on both Tizen and webOS, from $15 per screen per month or $6 with yearly volume billing.
- Samsung’s own route is now VXT, a cloud subscription that runs from $10 per screen per month for remote management to $40 for the P Series CMS, because MagicInfo On-Premise reaches End of Sale in December 2026.
- LG’s own stack is SuperSign Cloud (webOS 4.0 and later), SuperSign CMS for on-premise servers, and ConnectedCare monitoring (webOS 6.0 and later).
- A 55-inch Samsung QB55C sells for about $1010 against a $1330 MSRP, and LG lists the 55-inch 55UR640S at $880 on its US store.
- The problems you actually hit on site are setup traps (a panel booting into MagicInfo instead of URL Launcher), wrong clock settings that break SSL, and old on-premise servers that nobody patched.
What is the difference between Tizen and webOS for signage?
Both are SoC platforms. SoC means system on chip: the media player is a processor inside the display, so you have no box, no extra power socket and no HDMI cable behind the screen. The real differences are in the software each brand bundles and how it charges for it.
Samsung’s commercial version is called SSSP (Samsung Smart Signage Platform). NowSignage’s compatibility list maps SSSP 6 to Tizen 4.0 and SSSP 10 to Tizen 6.5 and Tizen 7, which covers current lines such as QMC, QHC and QBC. LG runs webOS for Signage, and current models like the UR640S ship with webOS 6.0.
| Samsung Tizen (SSSP) | LG webOS Signage | |
|---|---|---|
| Current version on sale | Tizen 7.0 (QBC, QMC, QHC) | webOS 6.0 (UR640S) |
| Own cloud CMS | VXT | SuperSign Cloud |
| Own on-premise CMS | MagicInfo Server, End of Sale Dec 2026 | SuperSign CMS |
| Own remote monitoring | VXT RM S and RM P | ConnectedCare |
| Third-party player install | URL Launcher or Custom App | Certified CMS apps via webOS APIs |
| Upgrade path for old screens | External player | WP601 webOS box, $333 |
| Example 55-inch model | QB55C, 350 nits | 55UR640S, 400 nits |
Nits measure brightness. Both of these 55-inch models are indoor panels and will look washed out behind a sunny shop window.
Which CMS runs on Samsung Tizen and LG webOS?
You have three choices: Samsung’s own software, LG’s own software, or an independent CMS (content management system, the dashboard where you upload content and set schedules) that runs on both brands. If your sites mix brands, or might in the future, an independent CMS spares you from running two dashboards and paying two invoices.
| CMS | Tizen | webOS | Price | Deployment | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Look DS | Yes | Yes | From $15/screen/month, $6 with yearly volume billing | Cloud or on-premise | Mixed fleets, SMB to multi-site, resellers |
| Samsung VXT | Yes | No | $10 to $40/screen/month | Cloud | Samsung-only fleets |
| Samsung MagicInfo | Yes | No | One-time licence, End of Sale Dec 2026 | On-premise | Existing estates only |
| LG SuperSign Cloud | No | Yes, webOS 4.0+ | Quote | Cloud | LG-only fleets |
| LG SuperSign CMS | No | Yes | Quote | On-premise | LG sites with on-premise rules |
Look DS
Look DS is a cloud digital signage CMS with an optional on-premise deployment, priced from $15 per screen per month, or $6 per screen per month with yearly volume billing. Its free Look Player app runs on Samsung Tizen and LG webOS as well as Android, Windows, Linux, macOS, Raspberry Pi and Fire OS, so Samsung panels, LG panels and cheap players all sit in one account. It fits small businesses with a few screens, multi-site networks and integrators who resell signage under their own brand.
Look DS runs on 7000+ active screens in 80+ countries and has a 4.9/5 rating on Capterra from 116 reviews, plus 5/5 on G2. You can check the plans on Look’s pricing page. There is a free trial.
Pros:
- One player app across 8 platforms, so a Samsung screen at one site and an LG at the next run the same playlists
- Offline playback keeps content running when the store Wi-Fi drops
- Cloud or on-premise, which matters for hospitals, banks and government buyers
- Smart scheduling, multi-zone layouts, user roles and playback analytics
- CRM, POS and inventory integrations for price and stock-driven screens
- Its own 4K players for screens without a usable SoC, such as the Verde PRO HDMI stick at $149
- White label and reseller program for AV integrators
- New AI tools are rolling out inside the content editor: image generation, background removal and text rewriting, with no export and re-upload
Cons:
- A smaller brand than the big names, with fewer third-party apps in its marketplace
- Look’s hardware players ship from its own shop, not from big retailers
Samsung VXT
VXT is Samsung’s cloud replacement for MagicInfo. Itechguides’ September 2026 check lists RM S at $10 per screen per month, S Series at $20 and P Series at $40, with a 60-day trial. VXT plays on Tizen, Android and Chrome-based displays, not on LG webOS.
- Pros: deep control of Samsung panels, sync play across screens on the P Series, and Samsung’s own roadmap
- Cons: remote management and content management are sold as separate tiers, and one-off onboarding and training fees apply
LG SuperSign Cloud and SuperSign CMS
LG says SuperSign Cloud works on LG commercial displays running webOS 4.0 or later, plus Android 9 to 11 and Windows 10 or 11 devices with its player installed. SuperSign CMS is the on-premise option, and it can also schedule brightness to save power.
- Pros: native to webOS, with an on-premise choice, brightness scheduling and LED wall support
- Cons: no Samsung support, and LG notes that support may be limited on some webOS 4.0 models
Other independent CMS
Many cloud CMS vendors support both platforms. ScreenCloud, NowSignage and Signagelive all publish step-by-step Tizen install guides, so check that your shortlist covers the exact SSSP or webOS version on your panels.
How does remote management compare?
Both brands sell monitoring separately from content. On Samsung, VXT RM S covers power on and off, screen orientation, live content monitoring, and locks on Bluetooth, USB and Wi-Fi. RM P adds early-warning alerts, energy reporting and presets you can push to many screens.

LG’s equivalent is ConnectedCare, a cloud service for fault diagnosis and remote control. It and LG Business Cloud apply to devices on webOS 6.0 and later, so a 2019-era webOS 4.0 panel gets SuperSign Cloud content but not the newer monitoring.
If you use an independent CMS, ask which device controls it actually gets: power schedules, input switching, reboot, screenshots. This matters at 6 a.m. when a mall screen is stuck on “No signal” and nobody is on site. We cover the scheduling side in our guide to turning signage screens on and off automatically.
How much do Samsung and LG pro displays cost?
At 55 inches, LG’s entry signage TV is usually cheaper than Samsung’s slim QBC. The software subscription can cost more than the price gap between the two panels within two years.
Samsung VXT list price per screen per year, EUR (2026)
| Item | List price | Street or sale price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung QB55C, 55" | $1330 MSRP | $1010 at B&H | 350 nits, 16/7, Tizen 7.0 |
| LG 55UR640S, 55" | $1200 at AV resellers | $880 on LG's US store | 400 nits, webOS 6.0 |
| LG WP601 webOS box | $333 | Adds webOS 6.0 to older LG screens | |
| Samsung VXT CMS S | $20/screen/month | $150/year at CDW | Content management only |
In Europe, Samsung’s authorised partner lists VXT per screen per year as shown below. Onboarding (€998) and CMS training (€499) are extra.
Here is what that means for 10 screens. On VXT S Series at $200 per screen per year, you pay $2000 a year for content alone, and remote management is a separate tier. On Look DS at the $15 monthly list price, the same 10 screens cost $1800 a year, and they keep working if you add an LG screen later. Our 2026 cost breakdown covers mounts, installation and content.
What goes wrong with built-in SoC players on site?
Most failures we see on Tizen and webOS have nothing to do with the chip. They come from setup and ownership.
- The panel boots into MagicInfo. ScreenCloud’s Tizen guide notes that if URL Launcher is missing from the Home menu, the panel is set to MagicInfo instead of the LFD launcher. Reset the “Play via” setting before you blame the CMS.
- Menu names change between generations. It is URL Launcher on SSSP 6, and Custom App under Play Via on Tizen 6.5 and 7.0. Installers with a 2019 checklist lose an hour here.
- The clock is wrong. A wrong date or time makes SSL validation fail, and the screen never reaches the CMS server. Set the time zone at install and use NTP (network time) if the network allows it.
- Someone bought a consumer TV. Third-party Tizen apps run on Samsung’s professional signage line, not on regular Samsung Smart TVs.
- The duty cycle does not match the hours. The QB55C is rated for 16/7. A lobby screen that runs around the clock needs screen-off hours or a 24/7 model.
- Old on-premise servers sit unpatched. CVE-2025-4632 in MagicInfo 9 Server scored 9.8 out of 10, and The Hacker News reported attackers used it to spread the Mirai botnet. If a forgotten MagicInfo box still runs in your server room, patch it or retire it. Our MagicInfo alternative comparison covers migration.
Then there is ageing. The panel lasts years longer than the SoC stays fast. When HTML5 widgets start to stutter on a 2018 chip, plug in an external player rather than replacing a working screen. More on that trade-off in our article on system-on-chip displays.
Which platform should you pick for your sites?
Buy whichever brand your local distributor prices better, then choose a CMS that does not lock you to it. A few cases:
- Dental clinic, 2 waiting room screens. Take the cheaper 43 or 55-inch panel on the day, use the built-in player and an independent CMS. With an LG at $880 against a Samsung at $1010, the saving pays for most of a year’s software.
- Retail chain, 40 stores, 120 screens, older LG and new Samsung. Two brand CMS tools would mean two logins, two playlists for every promotion, and staff who are never sure which system controls which store. One cross-platform CMS fixes that. Look DS fits here, with offline playback for stores with weak Wi-Fi.
- Head office where IT requires on-premise. No new MagicInfo licences after December 2026. Choose LG SuperSign CMS for an LG-only estate, or Look DS on-premise for mixed hardware.
- Samsung-only enterprise with a Samsung service contract. VXT P Series makes sense if you need sync play across video walls and Samsung’s direct support.
When is an external player better than the built-in SoC?
Use an external player when the screen’s chip is old, when the screen is a consumer TV, or when you want identical behaviour on every brand. The Look Verde PRO is a $149 HDMI stick with a 4 nm quad-core chip, Wi-Fi 6, Gigabit Ethernet and true 4K HDR. It draws power from the TV’s USB port, so you need no extra socket behind the screen.
It also uses HDMI CEC to turn the TV on and off and switch inputs on a schedule, and a hardware watchdog restarts it if it hangs. On an LG-only estate, the WP601 box at $333 does a similar job but stays inside LG’s world. We compare sticks in our best digital signage player 2026 test, and Samsung’s platform in more depth in our Samsung Smart Signage guide.

FAQ
Is Samsung Tizen or LG webOS better for digital signage?
Neither wins outright. At 55 inches LG’s UR640S is usually cheaper and brighter on paper (400 vs 350 nits), while Samsung has the wider pro range and the VXT ecosystem. Choose on local price and service, and run a CMS that supports both.
Can I use a third-party CMS on Samsung and LG signage displays?
Yes, on their professional lines. On Samsung you install the CMS app through URL Launcher on SSSP 6 or Custom App on Tizen 6.5 and 7.0. On LG, certified CMS vendors integrate through webOS APIs. Consumer Smart TVs from either brand are not supported this way.
Is Samsung MagicInfo being discontinued?
MagicInfo On-Premise reaches End of Sale in December 2026, and Samsung is moving customers to the VXT cloud subscription. Existing servers will keep running, but they need security patches, as CVE-2025-4632 showed in 2025.
How much does Samsung VXT cost compared with LG SuperSign?
VXT is published at $10 per screen per month for RM S, $20 for the S Series CMS and $40 for P Series, with a 60-day trial. LG does not publish a standard SuperSign Cloud price, so you get a quote through LG Business Cloud or a reseller.
Do built-in SoC players work offline?
The chip can store and loop content locally, but offline behaviour depends on the CMS app. Check that your CMS caches playlists on the screen, so a Wi-Fi drop at lunchtime does not leave a black screen. Look DS supports offline playback on its player apps.
